Well the X Factor 2009 Auditions officially started today on ITV1. There were a few outstanding individuals but Danyl Johnson stole the show. Simon Cowell even claimed it to be the 'best first audition' he's ever seen. I'm not sure I would agree with that but who am I to argue with the great man himself! Danyl Johnson is a 27-year-old teacher from Reading, he really got into the performance and was so energetic onstage. The crowd absolutely loved him and he knew how to work them too. He looks like a natural born entertainer with Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole all loving his performance. The X Factor 2009 Auditions are certainly back with a bang! Oh and in case you missed it the song he sang was The Beatles' classic With A Little Help From My Friends.
The show started with The Dreamgirls, two sisters from Lithuania or Albania something ending in 'ania' I missed what Dermot said. In any case they were truly awful. The sang, well murdered, Robbie Williams Angels. They also claimed to be models too which I found a bit puzzling. I have to admit my immediate thoughts when I saw them was Cheeky Girls mark 2. That's perhaps a bit unfair. To the Cheeky Girls. Cheryl Cole spent most of the audition looking down and trying to hide her face which was pretty funny. Simon seemed to think they were pretty enough although that was perhaps a back handed compliment so he could slaughter their performance and not hurt their feelings too much.
Now on to my fave contestants so far! The return of Emma Chawner. This time she turned up with a big (BIG) secret weapon, her sister. I've included a pic of her first audition in case you couldn't remember who she was. I don't know if I'm pleased or not that she hasn't improved any. The entertainment value is fantastic. It's just the fact that she thinks she's good and is so shocked when Simon sets here straight. Quote of the episode has to go to her dad, watching with Dermot behind the scenes. After Simon's ripped her performance Dad says...'We'll be back next year'. Wow what will it take for them to get it. She can't sing, and I'll say this is as nice as I can, you don't look like a popstar either. That goes for you sister too. She started off with this crazy story about sleeping in her car with a dog, cat, bird etc because her neighbours got her evicted for singing! Yes I said singing! Wow. I love you Great Britain. Triple Trouble also brought a smile to my face. These three London teenagers were out to prove that youngsters are getting a bad reputation and not everyone should believe the stereotype about trouble some teens. Why have they called themselves Triple Trouble then? Who knows. Anyway, they were terrible and got laughed off stage with the one of them recommending that Simon Cowell watch his back. Way to go on changing that stereotype Triple Trouble!
Anyway, enough of the delusional, back to the talent. The other X Factor 2009 contestants of note was 19-year-old Stacey Solomon, who is a student and single mum from Essex. She was excellent. The other shining star of the night was Joseph McElderry, 18, from South Shields, who I reckon is Cheryl Cole's wee brother. Stewards enquiry please. But the kid can sing so he deserved to go through. Simon even claimed to have found a pop star. Oh I forgot to mention those annoying Irish twins John and Edward who turned up at the Glasgow auditions. They got through despite annoying the hell out of Simon and will no doubt repeat the act on the rest of the UK at bootcamp. Don't worry though folks, it just makes seeing the disappointment when they get kicked out all the sweeter. Controversial I know, I've got a feeling John and Edward will do well in the competition. Good looking Irish twins? They do look like popstars already and I'm sure Simon Cowell can work his magic on John and Edward and make them sound a bit better too.
For any of you that missed it, episode 1 of the X Factor Auditions gets repeated on
Tomorrow at 6:30pm on ITV2 and Friday 28th of August at 6.30pm on ITV2
